Nick Jackson is a passionate educator committed to developing his classroom practice and sharing experiences with educators across the world. He brings together innovative practice and application of technology to promote major changes in education systems. He has considerable experience in the classroom and in presenting on the use of technology in education.
Currently employed as an Online Educational Designer for the University of South Australia after emigrating down under at the tail end of 2012, Nick is exploring online and blended learning models. He is also pursuing his passion for Digital Leaders and empowering students to direct their own learning.
Previous to moving into the Higher Education sphere, Nick was a Subject Leader for ICT at a high performing secondary school in Yorkshire, England. This management role involved him in not only leading a department, managing the staff, teaching 11 to 18 year old students in the study of ICT and Computing but also responsibilities whole school and to feeder primary schools. Across the whole of the school, he was actively engaged in advising, enhancing and promoting the use of technology. This led to many examples of the use of technology developing in the school such as a student Digital Leaders scheme, involvement in the Microsoft Learning Partners network, netbook loans, widespread VLE use and the setting up of a parental portal. In feeder primary schools he has run digital video, control and programming, social networking and e-safety projects to name but a few.
Nick has a wide a range of in-school experience. He has worked in a range of secondary schools from the challenging to the high performing, FE, adult learners, primary and in the independent sector. This has been in the role of teaching classes to student and leading training to staff.
Outside of the classroom, Nick has presented on use of Web 2.0, curriculum design, Digital Leaders schemes, collaboration in education and e-Safety. He as led workshops on the use of social media in primary schools and computer control & programming. He has worked as a Lead Practitioner for SSAT, co-authored revision guides, led seminars, examined and moderated for most of the exam boards in the UK. He has also taught in a special needs school in the US and in a slum camp in Northern India.
Nick is a Master of Science in Multimedia & E-learning and is currently studying for an MA in Education. When not studying, teaching, presenting or working elsewhere on education related projects, he spends a considerable amount of time immersed in social media usually in the Twitter sphere. This has led to the growth and status of the #ictcurric movement of which he was a founder member.
In summary, with over eleven years in education, a wealth of experience largely in the 11 to 18 sector, Nick is passionate about ICT and the use of useful technology to inspire young people to learn and achieve.
